When we talk of the Great Commission, we usually think of going into all parts of the world. As important as it is to take the gospel of Christ into our world, it is just as important to take the gospel of Christ where we work, where we play, where we take a vacation, ect.
Indianapolis Raceway Ministries provides another way to share the gospel of Christ with a lost world. Since unsaved people normally do not attend churches in large numbers, we must burst out of the four walls of the church and "go" take the gospel to them where they are. It is our goal to use methods of sharing the Good News that will touch those in a secular society and to communicate with them in terms they can understand and willing listen.
Indianapolis Raceway Ministries' philosophy of ministry is one of a low key, servant, relationship style. It is an approach of serving and being where the people are with consistency and availability. The Holy Spirit leads us into natural relationships in a non-aggressive way. It is a ministry centered on sensitivity to the needs of those to whom we are ministering.
Raceway ministry, sometimes called, "the ministry of hanging out." Relationships are established before a gospel presentation is given. Jesus modeled this with His ministry to the woman at the well (John 4). This style of ministry has been very successful within the motor racing communities.
Our desire is to introduce people to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and growth in His likeness. However, the hanging out style of ministry allows for those who aren't yet receptive to be given time to develop a friendship that allows spiritual ministry to proceed at their pace. It is our responsibility to be there, sow seeds, listen, pray with them and to leave the results in God's hands.
Building relationships is the most important part of ministering within the motor racing community. We do not push our way into ministering to those who do not want it. We provide services of caring and availability in time of need.
Indianapolis Raceway Ministries also gives church members attending racing events an opportunity to fellowship and participate in a worship service away from home. Although churches close to the track may not see results in their local churches, they are faithful partners in God's Kingdom ministry and are helping carry out the Great Commission. |
